Mia Brookes: From ski domes to X Games Gold

Mia Brookes is a seventeen year-old snowboarder from Sandbach, Cheshire in the UK. She first started snowboarding at 18 months - not because her parents were trying to raise a child protégé, but because, relatably, neither of them wanted to be stuck inside on child care duty. They wanted to spend time on the hill as a family. From Day 1, Mia was hooked - and now she is forging her own path as one of the best snowboarding talents the industry has seen in years.  

“I started doing world cups last year, and now we’re qualifying for the Olympics”

All you need to know about Mia Brookes is that she’s ridiculously talented. Second to that, you probably need to know her age.

At seventeen, Mia has achieved more than most will in their lifetime. Her achievements are endless and include X Games Gold, 2023 World champion, and Big Air in 2022. Now, her sights are set firmly on the Olympics where she hopes to add more medals to the cabinet.

Mia comes across as wise beyond her years. Whether that’s because she has been exposed to so much at such a young age, or because she is just wired to be ultra laid back which lends itself to having the ability to rationalize better than most adults, and definitely most athletes we don’t know.

She doesn’t have any weird pre-ride rituals, won’t engage in shit-talking or let anyone else get in her head. She just pops in her headphones, sets off and focuses on having fun - as if she is at the park with her friends. It’s an extraordinarily low-maintenance pre-comp hype routine, but it seems to be working.

“She makes snowboarding look so easy that it’s almost a crime.”

Her whole persona is laid back - whether that’s the way she dresses, the way she approaches competitions or her actual style on a board, Mia is chilled. She hypes herself up for competitions with Heavy Metal and does what she does because she genuinely just loves her sport.

Even if you’re not into snowboarding, do yourself a favor and tune into this. To see someone so young effortlessly achieve so much and still be completely charming is nothing short of inspiring.
